Here you have the best chances of getting big salmon

Norwegian rivers with catches of the greatest number of salmon more than 7 kg in 2015

This year’s salmon fishing in Norway will be a pure lottery.

This year’s salmon fishing will be a pure lottery. We expect a dramatically reduced entrance of medium salmon (3-5 kilos), and a very variable entrance of big salmon (above 5 kilo), salmon scientist Mr. Lars Petter Hansen, informs Fishing Norway. We are hoping for a good entrance of small salmon, but so far it is merely wishful thinking. The situation is really miserable only a few days before the opening of the season. The over all entrance of salmon to the Norwegian rivers is well below half of the entrance amount in the 70-ties.
The small salmon let us down last year. Especially in mid and south Norway, the small salmon was tiny and few. Normally most of the salmon is dying during its first year. Mr. Hansen claims. The main reason for this is ocean food shortage. Once the small salmon arrives this year, we will get the first indication of the current food supply level at sea. So far we have no indications, since the salmon so far haven’t shown up. We can only cross our fingers, and pray for a good small salmon year.

But due to the miserable condition of the small salmons from last year, we have good reason to fear that the medium salmon this year also will be few, and those who make it to the rivers will be in bad shape. Uncertainty is also preclusive for the big salmon, but some rivers might expect a normal season. Strong variations are expected on the over all scale.

The sporting anglers can expect heavy restrictions on the catch limits and on the seasonal opening periods. Hours and periods are reduced, and the catch keep limits are small. Around 20 rivers will be totally shut down, in addition to the 50 rivers already closed. On the bright side, reduced ocean fishing might result in better fishing for the big rivers in the Trondheim Fjord area.

The salmon season of 2008, that starts 15`th of May for some rivers, might turn out to be one of the most dramatic in Norwegian History.

Fishing Norway is putting the blame on Norwegian Political authorities.
They are mainly responsible for the bad administration of the wild salmon.
