Out of the total 44,3 ton catch record in the Tana River 2007, merely 12,3 tons was caught by sporting anglers.
The remaining part was caught on various methods of net fishing by locals. Both posted and drifting nets, in addition to other local salmon traps.
Consequently pure rod based rivers, such as Gaula, Orkla, Namsen and Alta river should be more attractive destinations for sporting anglers than Tana River. com also receives an increasing number of reports on unpleasant incidents between fishing tourists and the local fishermen in boats.
The pleasure of fishing Tana River seems to have been reduced.
