Wednesday June 27`Th Mr. Hendrickse Roland from Belgium broke the world record, catching a 22,84 kilo grey sea wolf on rod outside Hasvik in Troms County. The island Sørøya, is a fantastic location for trophy hunters targeting enormous fish. 30 kilo cod is not unusual, Mrs Mona Saab at Hasvik Hotel informs us.
Mr. Hendrickse Roland visited Hasvik in a group of trophy hunters, for the third consecutive year. The grey sea wolf was caught only 10 minutes from the hotel where the fishermen are staying. The catch will be registered on Team Hasvik Hotel, that also currently have the European record for cod caught on rod, with a 37,52 kilo beast, we are told by Mrs Mona Saab.

Beat the current world record by 4 kilo

The county sheriff acted as “notary public” for the books, and carefully controlled all measurements of the huge fish. He could state for a fact that it was 4 kilo above the current world record, and 8 kilo above the largest grey sea wolf so far caught on rod in Norway.

Sea Urchins on the menu

The grey sea wolf loves to feast on sea urchins, and has terrible pointy teeth that can splinter a wooden oar. But despite its horrible looks, and its fear inspiring jaws, that can frighten anyone coming close, the grey sea wolf is a delicacy that can compete with the frog fish once at the restaurant table.
The record fish will be preserved and exhibited at the hotel, Mrs Mona Saab tells Fishing Norway.

30 kilo cod is not unusual

We see 30 kilo cods all the time. Sørøya has become one of the hottest travelling destinations for European trophy hunters, Mrs Mona Saab says. Her Hotel rents 18ft boats with 30HP engines for 4300NOK pr week, and they charge 9900NOK for lodging of 6 persons. If You want a boat with an experienced captain, you have to pay 3500NOK a day in addition. Should You require a fishing guide this will cost an additional 2000NOK pr. day.
